Hello folks !
Today’s subject is something rather tricky : Pink, the color of girls.
Don’t forget the Plastics rule from the Mean Girls movie : On wednesdays we wear pink.
We either love or hate it. And sometimes we don’t know.
When I was a kid, I really liked pink for a time, and then I hated it because it was « for little girls ».
Now it depends of the clothes. Pink is a color that is very hard to wear, without looking kitsch like Dolores Umbridge or looking like a child.
I have ONE pink dress, because I totally fell in love with it when I saw it at The House of Foxy
How to wear pink and avoid mistakes
There are two things that you must be very careful about when wearing an outfit with a pink main piece.
Choose the shade carefully
The big problem of pink is the Barbie doll stereotype. Particularly if you lived in the 90s like me, where the Barbie world was 100 % pink. So if you are blonde, avoid bright pink if you don’t want to look like a 90s Barbie.
I’m a dark brunette so when it comes to pink I prefer to choose pale or dusty pink tones. I don’t like bright pink on me. It makes me look too young, and this is the second mistake that you have to avoid.
Be careful of the childish look
I chose to wear a printed dresses, with flowers that recall Japanese kimono.
We all know that prints are dangerous and that you have to choose them carefully ( ◞･౪･)
To make it simple, pink is often associated with small girls. So I’d recommend to avoid any childish print if you want your outfit to look fresh and elegant. So don’t choose rabbits, kittens or candies on pastel pink backgrounds. Leave that to your 4 year old niece. Your outfit will look nicer with a more adult print like florals.
For my accessories and make up, I chose to stay in pink shades, with rather small pieces of jewelry. I also added a dusty pink hair flower.
I added a pair of brown shoes, because this color is in the print. This is a tip I give in my post about how to construct an elegant outfit.
